Saturday, March 9, Stage Right will attempt to break the record for the fastest musical production. The previous record is 15 hours; Stage Right will be attempting to do it in 14 hours and 30 minutes. To set the record, Stage Right will receive notice of the title of the show at 5:30 am that morning. They will then have 14 hours and 30 minutes to cast, rehearse, create sets, props and costumes, rehearse the orchestra and be ready to perform before a live audience. The performance will be open to the public for a suggested donation of $10 or $20. (Please see the official rules from the Guinness organization.)
Artistic Director Tony Marino: “For our 20th anniversary celebration season we wanted to do things that truly represent who and what we are. We wanted to do new titles (“Mamma Mia”), original shows (“Snow White”), shows that define us (“Jesus Christ Superstar”) and shows that welcome families into the theatre (“Shrek” and “Charlie Brown”). In addition, we wanted to have events that speak to the spirit and ethos of the company. Trying to do the impossible is something I think we are about. We are a professional theatre company and school for the performing arts that has survived and thrived in Westmoreland County for 20 years, something many people told us was impossible! So, lets do a show in 14 and a half hours and set a world record! That seems like something we’d try to do anyway. Plus it will feature so many of the performers our audiences have loved for years, coming back to volunteer their time and we’re doing it on the stage that has been our home since we started. It all seems very, very Stage Right!”
The public will be allowed to drop-in to Stage Right and watch the progress throughout the day.
Stage Right General Manager JoAnne Salvatore: “As opposed to an actual ticket we are asking that people make either a $10 or $20 donation. In addition to setting the World Record, we are also going to set a Stage Right record for the most amount of Summer Camp Scholarships we’ve ever awarded. We want to give away 75 scholarships! That’s twice as many scholarships as we’ve ever given away. We want as many kids as possible to be able to experience a Summer Camp this year. Your donation allows you the chance to take part in a world record AND start a kid down the road to their dreams.”
The name of the show will be released on Stage Right’s website (www.stagerightgreensburg.com), Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on March 9 at 5:30 am as soon as it is revealed.
